Problem

Data might not be collected for HPE XP7/XP8 storage systems in TrueSight Capacity Optimization or TrueSight Operations Management if the disk array receives too many concurrent requests. When this issue occurs, the following exception appears in the Debug Log:

and a Netstat query to the SMI-S provider shows a large number of connections in a “CLOSE_WAIT” state:

Solution

For TrueSight Capacity Optimization: Increase the service period from 90000 to 7200000

  1. Access the BMC Truesight Capacity Optimization Console

  2. Navigate to Administration > ETL & SYSTEM TASKS > ETL Tasks

  3. Choose the affected ETL task

  4. Under Run Configurations, click the inline icon to edit the run configuration

  5. Click Advanced

  6. Click the link You can manually edit ETL properties from this page located at the bottom of the page

  7. Set the service.period to 7200000

  8. Save your changes.

  9. Restart the SMI-S Provider to initiate data collection.

For TrueSight Operations Management: Increase the polling interval to 1h, and Discovery interval to 24h

  1. Access the BMC Truesight Operations Management Console

  2. In the navigation pane, expand Configuration and select Infrastructure Policies

  3. In the Infrastructure Policies page, locate the monitoring policy you wish to modify, click its action button inline and click Edit.

  4. In the Edit Monitoring Policy page, locate the Storage Monitoring Solution and click its action button inline to access the monitoring options panel

  5. Click the action button inline of the affected device and choose Edit

  6. Under Optional Settings, set the Polling Interval to 60 minutes, and the Discovery Interval to 1440 minutes (24 hours).

  7. Restart the SMI-S Provider to initiate data collection.
