Objective
This article explains how to monitor the Cisco SAN switches with Hardware Sentry. The Cisco MDS 9000 switches are monitored using "Cisco MDS9000 Series - SSH/Telnet" which connects to the Cisco Bay Controller through SSH or Telnet and executes commands. A bay can contain more than one switch and each switch has a separate blade enclosure.
Requirements
The Telnet or SSH user account used to connect to the Bay should have rights to execute the following commands on the controller:
- terminal length 0
- terminal no monitor
- show hardware
- show module
- show environment
- show interface
Monitoring using Hardware Sentry KM
- Configure a remote monitoring of type Storage
- Enter the hostname or IP address of the Bay Controller
- Select the Cisco MDS9000 Series - SSH/Telnet connector
- Select the protocol to be used (SSH or Telnet) and provide valid credentials
- Click Finish to trigger a new discovery
Monitoring using BMC Performance Manager Express for Hardware by Sentry
- Add a new element of type Storage to Portal
- Enter the hostname or IP address of the Bay Controller
- Configure the monitoring for platform type storage and select Hardware(Storage) application class
- Provide valid Telnet or SSH credentials and complete the process.
